J Welch Farms

Web + Photography + eCommerce

project summary

J Welch Farms reached out to us to help publicly launch their new olive ranch. The Welch family farms over 13,000 acres of row crops in Texas and a few years ago planted 80,000+ olive trees near Port Lavaca, TX. 2018 was their first year to start bottling olive oil and sell to the public. We built out their website using WordPress & WooCommerce. We also added a custom backend addition for wholesalers to login and receive wholesale discounts. Everything is integrated with their Square store and we setup their fulfillment with ShippingEasy to automate their fulfillment process with UPS. Lastly, we got a birds-eye view of their orchard so they could have some super legit graphics.

more about this project

We often take a minimalist approach to our designs and this was no exception. We love creating user-friendly interfaces and user-friendly and busy designs never work well together. With this website, we let the visuals do most of the talking. Since, this was a brand new product and brand, making the product the focus was our ultimate goal. In fact, The Welch family hasn’t had a website for their farm until this one. We wanted to communicate just enough what & why without creating information overload.

We extended the basics of WooCommerce quite a bit to accomplish the requirements of the project. We integrated the shop with Facebook, Square, ShippingEasy, & UPS to create an admin-friendly shop. We also integrated Gravity Forms with WooCommerce to allow detailed orders for Wholesalers and Customers. We had two types of users for this site: the customers provided by WooCommerce and a custom user role called “Wholesaler” that has access to the Wholesale products and can order in bulk. We also added name your own price gift cards to the shop!

With a beautiful country orchard, how can you not have aerial photos? Exactly. We busted out the DJI Mavic Pro and got some awesome aerial shots of the J Welch Olive Ranch so they can use them however and whenever they want. We also took professional shots of all their mainline products to feature in their online store.
